Most of us had yearly gym memberships that we went to only a few months. RIG takes traditional gym memberships seriously and turns them into a new gen mobile application that provides its users with one-off tickets.

Challange

Challange

We wanted to design an easy-to-use application that will support the great transformation initiated by RIG App in the gym membership model. Our user scenario was straightforward: press the button, view the details, and register.

Here's what we wanted to do:

  1. Design an application that is easy to use and gets users the results quickly

  2. Building a holistic user experience approach by re-thinking visual concept, navigation, discovery, and all the flows of the app.

Kickoff

Kickoff

In the research phase, we work on the target audience, their goals, tasks, and analysis of the current mobile application.

The focus of our work was user actions and application structure.

The RIG App has 2 users on 2 different platforms:

  1. An iOS application for the end user

  2. A web app for the studios

In this case study, I'm going to tell you about the iOS application.

Problem

Problem

After the analysis, we aimed at 3 major problems.
The problems we validated by using user feedback and analytic data are:

  1. Complex navigation.

  2. Problematic onboarding process.

  3. “Abandoned” look of the app. The inclusion of social features, that require contributions from users into MVP, has caused this issue.

Wireframing

Wireframing

After defining the user actions, application structure, and identifying the issues, we began working on the wireframes.

We handled a comprehensive wireframe study based on all interactions and screens to validate our ideas and clarify the product design vision with the project stakeholders, to conduct the necessary prototype tests in user test groups.

Onboarding flow

Onboarding flow

The current onboarding process had 7 steps. The drop-off rate increased because of the lengthy process. The information we got from the steps was not critical when considering the MVP.

We designed a new flow that consisted of 2 simple steps, which we need for the first phase. We aimed for users to meet the content as quickly as possible.

Home screen

Home screen

The current application's home screen was a social activity feed that shows photographs, location check-ins, and activities that users shared. This situation was the biggest factor that caused the abandoned looking of an application that was still in the MVP and did not have enough users to contribute to the social platform. We have decided to remove the social features from the application on the condition that we bring them back in future phases.

Checkout

Checkout

Users reach the checkout screen by just tapping on the price button to add a class or event to their cart. The number one priority for us was for the users to complete the whole booking process smoothly without any confusion. We know that most users ask questions about the cancellation policy based on the information we got from customer support. We added the cancellation policy URL under each item on the checkout page to clarify the process.

After completing the checkout process, we added a function that allows inviting users' friends to their gym session. With this function, RIG App started to support local studios in growing by reaching the friends of their customers.

User profile

We designed a profile screen that the users can reach their tickets, favorite studios, and activities.

We also put the activity feed that is increasing familiarity with the social features from now on that will come in the next phases.
